Laweyan was very famous as hand printed batik city and soon the glory faded when print batik emerged, due to fast and cheap print method

There was Mr. Tjokrosoemarto families as wealthy batik merchant with his big houses and factory. Rumors said that his house floor was planned to be decorated with coin but indoensia first president didn't allow that.
Laweyan was famous also when Haji Samanhudi founded Islamic Trade Union in 1910
